Ikebana International was founded in Japan in 1956 by Mrs. Ellen Gordon, who was recognized by the Emperor of Japan for her contribution to the promotion of arts of ikebana and Japanese culture. Our Sun City Chapter #167 of Ikebana International was formed in November 1971 under the leadership of Mrs. Charles G. Clark with 41 chapter members. After six months as a prospective chapter and six months as a potential chapter, Tokyo Ikebana International headquarters approved our chapter in November 1972.
