Ikebana International was founded in
Japan in 1956 by Mrs Ellen Gordon,
who was recognized by the Emperor of
Japan for her contribution to the
promotion of arts of Ikebana and
Japanese culture. Our Sun City Chapter #167 of Ikebana International
was formed in November 1971 under the leadership of Mrs Charles G. Clark with 41 chapter members. After six months as a prospective chapter and four months as a potential chapter, Tokyo Ikebana International headquarters approved our chapter and our charter date is September 1, l972.
On December 14, 1993, our chapter name was changed from Sun City to Sun Cities.
